The first time you login you will automatically create a blank user profile for yourself. You can then go in and add your contact info, your experience, education, and even your personal interests. Once the profile is completed, any document you contribute to will have your profile attached and you can link up with other wiki users.

Why create a user profile?
- Allows others to get in contact with you -- they love an article you put up or they need your expertise
- Establishes an identifiable presence on the wiki
- Helps in establishing communities of practice and making collaboration easier
- Enhances the ability to gain insight from other people
- Creates a sense of connectedness, especially if geographically separated
- Adds a cross-national and cross-cultural dimension to knowledge and learning
- Best of all ... creating a user profile page is your space to describe yourself!
Create a personalized user profile page
Populate your user profile with information you want to share with colleagues such as:
- your position and role
- how to reach you at work
- what motivates you
- your areas of expertise
- your work experience
- your interests, hobbies and passions
Sample user profile model
Once you've tended a few wikis and gotten your gnome feet wet, you may want to build a profile palace!
In the meantime, here are three sample models you might want to use to set up your profile page.
Basic user profile model
To set up a basic profile page:
- Log in to your account
- Copy the information topics you want to include in your profile (and the wiki markup found around the topics) from the box below.
- Click on your username at the top of the page
- Paste the model text in, enter your personal details and save the changes.

Standard user profile model
This profile page model includes the wiki markup and headings for:
- showing the current local time
- uploading your photo
- linking to external web sites
- linking to other colleagues to your User talk page
To set up the standard user profile model:
- Log in to your account
- Copy the text and wiki markup (everything) from the box below.
- Click on your username at the top of the page;
- If you have not already created a user profile page:
- text will appear in the dialog box saying: "There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page"
- click on the "edit this page" link
- Paste the model text in, enter your personal details and save the changes
- If you have already created a user profile page:
- click on the edit tab at the top of your user profile page
- Paste the model text in, enter your personal details and save the changes

Deluxe user profile model
Copy and paste all the text found below to establish a profile page that is a little more sophisticated looking.
This model has:
- sidebars with borders and colour
- wiki markup for uploading your picture
- colours can be changed by replacing the letters and characters preceded by the # sign in the wiki markup
- to change colours go to a site such as Hex Mixer, copy the large letters under the shade of colour you want, replace colours within the model with the new numbers (make sure the # stays right in front of the numbers), save the changes and check it out
