Summary

SOPA (Settlement Online Pre-Arrival) is a network of 6 Canadian settlement agencies across the country delivering customized pre-employment support and training to prepare immigrants for successful integration into the Canadian labour market. This network provides the support and training within the current local context connecting immigrants to their destined communities. By participating in SOPA, immigrants will arrive in Canada better prepared, more confident and enter the workforce sooner.

About SOPA

Settlement Online Pre-Arrival (SOPA) helps immigrants destined to Canada develop skills for job search and improve communication skills for the Canadian workplace. SOPA delivers a pre-arrival orientation and workplace culture communication support for immigrants focusing on job search, job readiness and job retention.

Program Features

  • Customized pre-employment supports to help immigrants find and retain employment in Canada
  • Personalized one-hour planning session on career and settlement goals
  • Access and referrals to settlement resources
  • Access and referrals to post arrival employment services
  • Access to the following courses:
- Job Search Strategies course (6 weeks)
- Soft Skills: Professional Communications course (4 weeks)
- Soft Skills: Working with Others course (4 weeks)
- Working in Canada course (self-guided)
- Canadian Workplace Integration (self-guided)

Fees

SOPA courses are offered free of charge to the eligible immigrants

Eligibility

To be eligible for SOPA, immigrants must:

  • Live outside Canada
  • Have received approval from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to immigrate to Canada
  • Have an English level (IELTS) 5.5 or higher
  • Have access to a computer and high speed Internet
  • Have one of the following documents:
- A confirmation of Permanent Residence document
- A letter notifying pick up of Canadian visa (visa for permanent resident applicants only)
- A medical or security notification letter
- A Canadian visa
