ACFOMI is a non-profit organization created in 1976 to promote and support the community and personal development of approximately 12 000 Franco-Ontarians residing in the Thousand Islands region, which extends from Trenton to the West and Brockville to the East. L'ACFO Mille-Îles is one of 20 regional councils grouped under AFO, Assemblée de la francophonie de l'Ontario, a provincial umbrella organization that represents the interest of the Ontario's francophone population. ACFO undertakes community development work to raise awareness of the needs of francophone individuals in the region.

ACFOMI began providing settlement services in April of 2010. These services are available in multiple languages including French, English, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. In the first year of service delivery, ACFOMI exceeded their target client numbers by half, with over 75 open files. Immigrant and refugee representation exists at board and staff levels, with one immigrant board member and two immigrant staff members (the settlement counsellors.) ACFMOI staff are very interested in participating in the June Professional Development conference and encouraged their ED to apply for membership.
